Secondary Programs

The Secondary Skill Building program is cancelled for Summer 2020 due to COVID-19 considerations. Please check back here starting in January 2021 for Summer 2021 programming.

Secondary Skill Building courses are non-credit courses. Students may take these courses to review previously covered course content OR to preview a course that they will take in the future. For example, a Grade 9 Math Skill Building class might include students who will be Grade 10 as of September 2020 and would benefit from extra time at the Grade 9 level. The class will also include students who will be in Grade 9 as of September 2020 and want to preview Grade 9 curriculum.

Secondary Skill Building courses are available to all students who will be in Grades 9 through 11 as of September 2020 (with the exception of Band, Tech Ed, and Culinary courses, which are open to students who will be in Grades 8 through 11 as of September 2020).

Note: Classes do not cover the entire curriculum in the course area. They do not replace an entire grade. Students completing these courses do not receive a final letter grade, nor is this course recorded on their transcript.

Secondary Remedial

Remedial courses are for Grade 9 and 10 students who were unsuccessful (40-49%) during the school year and are being given the opportunity to receive credit (passing grade) for the course by attending Summer Learning.

Registration for Remedial courses is by referral only, using a form available from your school counsellor. Please submit this completed form, with all required signatures, between April 1 and June 30 2020

Fast Track (Online Blended)

Fast Track courses follow a blended learning model:
• two weekly synchronous class sessions (Tues/Thurs or Wed/Fri, mornings or afternoons (see specific courses for scheduling). These class sessions will be conducted online.
• three days of online work. Teachers will be available these days for online tutorial support.
Note: This program is best suited for students wishing to complete the selected course within a 6-week timeline.
A final mark earned in a Fast Track course will, if higher than a mark already earned in the same course, replace the original mark

There is no textbook deposit for any Fast Track course.

Program Dates: July 2 - August 7 (Note: there will be no tutorial or classes July 27 and Aug. 3)

Program Times: 8:30 - 11:30 AM or 12 - 3:00 PM

Program Days: Wed/Friday (July 3-Aug 7) or Tues/Thurs (July 2-Aug 6). All Fast Track students will have one additional class, on Mon. July 6.

Registration is closed to International Students (who can register for high school credit courses at http://www.internationaled.com/
Registration in May available to students enrolled in SD43 public schools only. Non-SD43 students may register on or after June 1.
Courses will only run if there is adequate enrolment. Courses are subject to cancellation due to low enrolment .
